Degenerative Disc Disease in 5 year old dog
Patient:
Audrey is a 5 year old Daschund dog who presented to us a year ago after she was unable to walk in her hind limbs. She had already had a spinal surgery the previous year after a disc ruptured in her thoracolumbar spine.
History/Reason for coming to Physiotherapy:
Audrey’s owner came home from work and found her unable to walk, and crying when she tried to move. She was unable to fully control her bladder or bowel. She was taken to the Veterinarian immediately who suggested another surgery. The owner didn’t want to put Audrey through another surgery, so contacted us to see if conservative management was a possibility.
Management:
Audrey was closely monitored for the first few weeks. Her sensation in her hind legs started to improve, and she regained control of her bladder with anti inflammatory medication, rest and physiotherapy.
Audrey is certainly one of our favourite sausage’s in the world, she comes for a reassessment and treatment every 4-6 weeks.
